ESL Business Teacher Articles: Storytelling

Storytelling is like an art. Some people are really great at telling stories and just seem to have a knack for it while most others don’t. But why is storytelling so important? Should we be telling stories at work to obtain more buy in from colleagues and customers rather than just being frank and getting to the point? I don’t think storytelling is incredibly hard to do but it definitely takes some practice and understanding of the hero’s journey to share good ones.

In this lesson, we discuss with the client about:

  • What is a good story
  • How do we tell a story
  • What is the hero’s journey
  • What is a story you can share
  • Discuss the article – takeaways, agree/disagree, and etc.

ESL Business Teacher Articles: Power of Attitude

Power of Attitude is a major factor in someone’s life or on the team to determine success. I once had an interview with a employee where the first question was, what are three qualities to make a job successful. Luckily I answered “attitude” and then he asked why that was so. He then hired me right after answering the question. I asked why my qualifications and job history didn’t seem to matter. He indicated because with the right attitude, anything can be done or learned and that is what he was looking for in his employees. I would say most of the people in the group had that kind of attitude he was looking for. It was a good organization.

In this lesson, we discuss with the client about:

  • What does attitude mean
  • Why is attitude important
  • What kind of attitudes do your colleagues have
  • What does it take to have a great attitude
  • Discuss the article – takeaways, agree/disagree, and etc.
