ESL Business Teacher – People: Umeko Tsuda

Umeko Tsuda was born in 1864 in Tokyo as the second daughter of Sen Tsuda and Hatsuko Tsuda. She was born during a transitional period in Japan’s history, as the country moved from the feudal government of the Edo era (1603-1867) to that of the Meiji era (1868-1912). She spent a number of years at a young age living in the United States only to return to Japan feeling like a foreigner. Yet she continued to persevere to help improve Japan making it a better and strong country. She still carries a strong name in Japan to this day.

ESL Business Teacher – People: Clara Barton

Clara Barton, according to Biography.com  was born on December 25, 1821, in Oxford, Massachusetts. She became a teacher, worked in the U.S. Patent Office and was an independent nurse during the Civil War. While visiting Europe, she worked with a relief organization known as the International Red Cross, and lobbied for an American branch when she returned home. The American Red Cross was founded in 1881, and Barton served as its first president.

As an amazing woman in American history and help founded one of the greatest humanitarian organizations, we have much to thank her for and also learn from.

Viktor Frankl was a survivor. Perhaps it was luck. But he believe there is a lot more to than just luck. He survived through a Nazi concentration camp when so many didn’t. Why? Frankl spent many years after his life studying just this and sharing his philosophy to help people who have depression and make one’s life better.

ESL Business Teacher – People: Eleanor Roosevelt

Eleanor Roosevelt, according to Biography.com  was born in New York City on October 11, 1884, Eleanor Roosevelt—the niece of Theodore Roosevelt—was one of the most outspoken women in the White House. She married Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1905. During her husband’s presidency, Eleanor gave press conferences and wrote a newspaper column. After his death, she served at the United Nations, focusing on human rights and women’s issues.

She was an amazing woman who helped shift America and the world in a better direction. I am a personal huge fan of her as I have read many of her books and have learned a great deal from her.
