ESL Business Teacher Articles: Entitlement

Entitlement per the dictionary is “the belief that one is inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment” where privilege is “a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group of people.” In today’s world (and perhaps in the past), many employees in companies expect this and that from the company. There was a time when these “freebies” where not granted. Young folks now expect this without really understanding how they are funded, organized, and maintained.

In this lesson, we discuss with the client about:

  • What is the difference between entitlement and privilege
  • When should we be entitled to something
  • Why should we grant this
  • Discuss the article – takeaways, agree/disagree, and etc.
